Uh, maybe because it is a game, and not real life - lol. But if you want a real life explanation that actually makes sense it is this:
Yes, the officers escape in a teleporter, pod or shuttle...
No, the items are not magically teleported, or saved. This simulates the fact that the items use an insignificant amount of metal to build - compared to the rest of a ship. New ones just roll off the assembly line, and are installed on new ships with no cost to the player.

Or you upgrade engines, and travel take less
They didnt put engines on the ships as a decoration..

That is definitely annoying. I typically time my looting runs around SB. So that the ones closest to the battle ground are ready when it is over.
TBH though, the SB should be able to be entered from wherever you are, and leave you there.

Yep, how else do you think your officers and equipment get from home base to your fleet to your ships on other colonies etc etc at just the click of a button ..... one day we will learn to teleport whole ships!

Why we don't lose officers and items when ships blow up.
Aside from game mechanics, I always wondered how it can be explained that when the fleet is destroyed, the officers and the equipment aren't gone. I think maybe there are two answers.
Escape pods. When the situation is critical, the captain activates auto-pilot and the auto-battle. The crew and important weapons are loaded into the escape pods. (Perhaps into pods with cloak capability, or pods designed to disengage similar to saucer separation) Voila, safe and undetected passage back to base.
Other ships. Ships Stellar and Mupwiduj are classified as Dreadnought-class. That important of a ship is bound to have an armament of secondary ships (escape pods, Escort class ships, etc). Petra and Var'Qan are Capital-class ships, Capital-class definitely has such an armament. At critical time and in confusion of the battle, the crew (and the equipment) of out 4 ships escape in one of those armament ships.Tags: None
